Baggage Problems at Gardermoen

There are issues with the luggage system at Norway's largest airport, Gardermoen, coinciding with the morning rush and winter holiday season.

Gardermoen, Norway's largest airport, is experiencing significant issues with its luggage handling system during peak travel times. According to Carita Storm Røsaasen, a spokesperson for Avinor, the airport operator, one of the two luggage systems is not functioning properly, forcing staff to manually transfer baggage between the two facilities. This situation is exacerbated by the high volume of travelers, as 2.1 million Norwegians are planning to travel in the coming weeks due to the winter holiday period. Additionally, on particularly busy days, the airport expects to handle close to 90,000 passengers. The problems began on Monday morning shortly after 8 AM, during a period of heavy traffic and increased travel activity due to the holiday season. Røsaasen has apologized for the expected increase in wait times and has urged passengers to prepare accordingly. As luggage is being delivered manually because of the system issues, travel reporters are highlighting this inconvenience to keep the public informed. Both SAS and Norwegian airlines have been contacted for further details as they evaluate the situation and its impact on their operations. Travelers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys to mitigate the effects of the luggage delays, especially on the busiest days ahead, which are expected to be correlated with the peak winter holiday traffic at the airport.
