Traffic on the Roads: Kifisos at 'Red' – Immobilized Vehicles on Athens and Kifisia Avenue

Severe traffic issues are plaguing drivers in Attica, particularly on the Kifisos highway and central Athens.

This week begins with significant traffic troubles for drivers in Attica, as congestion on the Kifisos highway has reached critical levels. The situation is dire in both directions, stretching from Aigaleo to Nea Filadelfeia. Similarly, Athens Avenue is experiencing immobilized vehicles from Chaidari to Skaramagkas, particularly at the intersection with Kifisos. Major delays are also reported on Iera Oda and Thivon streets, indicating widespread traffic disruptions across the region.

Additional congestion is noted on Syggrou heading towards Athens, as well as on Kifisias Avenue from Ampelokipoi to Chalandri, and on Mesogeion Avenue near Chalandri heading towards the city. Other key locations in red-zone traffic include Vasileos Konstantinou and Vasilissis Sofias streets. As of now, travelers on the Attiki Odos expressway are facing delays of about 15 minutes on routes towards the airport, particularly from Metamorfosi to Kifisia, underscoring the extensive impact of the traffic chaos.

The ongoing traffic problems not only frustrate daily commuters but also raise concerns about the ability of emergency services to navigate through congested city streets. As the week progresses, local authorities may need to implement traffic management strategies to alleviate the worsening conditions, especially in busy urban areas. The continued reliance on vehicle traffic also brings attention to the need for improved public transportation options in the capital, which could help to reduce such severe traffic issues in the future.
