The D8 highway near Prague closed due to an accident involving several cars and trucks

The D8 highway was closed near Prague due to an accident involving multiple vehicles, leading to one person being hospitalized.

In the early hours of Monday, an accident involving several personal and freight vehicles led to the closure of the D8 highway between the 7th and 9th kilometers in the direction of Ústí nad Labem. Initial reports indicated that the accident involved one truck and four cars; however, this number has since increased to six cars and five trucks. The police announced that the traffic diversion would be redirected through Zdiby due to the extended closure expected for the highway.

According to police spokesperson Barbora Schneeweissová, the incident was reported at 06:40 and became more complex as more vehicles were involved. Additionally, the emergency service spokesperson Monika Nováková confirmed that one individual was transported to a Prague hospital with lighter injuries for further examination, highlighting the incident's seriousness. Authorities are assessing the scene to ensure proper management of the traffic situation.

In relation to the weather, snow is expected to fall across much of the Czech Republic until Wednesday, causing potentially hazardous conditions, followed by a cold snap before a weekend thaw brings rain to lower regions. This weather pattern may have contributed to the accident, making road conditions treacherous. Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling due to ongoing adverse weather forecasts.
