Gallery: Stage Poetry at the Tallinn Writers' House
Stage poetry was performed at the Tallinn Writers' House featuring finalists and winners from the Tallinn Poetry Slam.
On February 11, the Tallinn Writers' House hosted a stage poetry event that brought together some of the best talents in Tallinn's poetry scene. The event showcased both the finalists and winners of the Tallinn Poetry Slam, emphasizing a more relaxed format by forgoing the usual scoring system to enhance the enjoyment of spoken poetry. This approach allowed for a deeper appreciation of the art form as participants engaged in a free-flowing creative expression.
The evening was directed by Lee Jenner and Kelli Kiipus, who are the leaders of the Tallinn Slam Collective. They not only presented the performers but also provided insights into the Poetry Slam format and spoke about stage poetry in general, which helped to familiarize the audience with the nuances and significance of the performances. The variety of poets included Joonas Veelmaa, Mari-Liis Müürsepp, Tiina Saar-Veelmaa, Marie Ojamaa, and Anna Leena Salumets, each bringing their unique style to the stage.
The event underscored the vibrant spoken word culture in Tallinn and provided a platform for poets to showcase their talents in a supportive environment. By promoting stage poetry and encouraging audiences to appreciate it beyond conventional parameters, the event nurtured community engagement and artistic expression, solidifying the importance of such cultural gatherings in the local artistic landscape.
