Podcast: Sergey Hilman went running in summer clothes in the Canary Islands - harsh reality hit him in the face
In the latest episode of 'The Real Guys' podcast, Sergey Hilman shares his unexpectedly challenging hiking experience in the Canary Islands.
In the second episode of the refreshed season of 'The Real Guys' podcast, Sergey Hilman recounts his recent trip to the Canary Islands, which turned out to be far from what he had anticipated. He had signed up for a hiking trip, motivated to run the entirety of the trek, buoyed by high spirits. However, he quickly learned that the realities of the hike were much different than he initially thought. Hilman recalled that the brochure clearly stated the trip would last eight hours at high altitudes, and participants were advised to dress warmly. However, he assumed that the weather, which forecasted 16 degrees Celsius in the morning and 23 degrees during the day, would allow for lighter clothing, so he opted for a sport shirt and shorts.
As the reality of the conditions set in, Hilman found himself at a much higher altitude where the temperature dropped to just eight degrees Celsius, alongside remnants of melting snow, leaving him quite cold. He expected that they would soon begin running, but that was not the case. Surprisingly, he noted that some participants came ill-prepared, with two not even wearing proper running shoes, further highlighting the mismatch between expectations and the actual hiking experience. Hilman's adventure serves as a reminder of the importance of being adequately prepared for outdoor activities, irrespective of weather forecasts.
