Russia: β Ukrainian drone attacks lead to power outages
Ukrainian drone attacks have caused partial outages of electricity and heating in the western Russian region of Bryansk, according to local authorities.
Officials in Bryansk, Russia, have reported that Ukrainian drone attacks have resulted in partial outages of electricity and heating across five municipalities and parts of the city of Bryansk. Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz relayed the information via Telegram, stating that the assaults on infrastructure were among the most significant since the onset of the conflict, lasting over twelve hours and involving the shooting down of more than 170 drones.
Since the beginning of the war, Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure with missiles and drones, leading to an ongoing cycle of retaliation from Ukraine. In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified its drone strikes against Russian targets, particularly oil and gas facilities, as part of its military strategy to weaken the Russian war effort. The attacks highlight the broader context of an evolving conflict in which both sides continually adapt their tactics in response to the attacks of the other.
Bryansk is located near the border with Ukraine and has frequently been one of the Russian regions affected by drone strikes and artillery fire during the war. The escalation underscores the instability in the region as both Ukrainian and Russian forces engage in a protracted struggle, impacting local communities with power outages and infrastructure damage as a result of the ongoing military actions.
