Macinka is still unripe, says Stropnický. He also explains why he entered ANO back then

Former Czech politician Martin Stropnický reflects on his political career and the current state of politics during a recent interview.

In a candid interview, Martin Stropnický, the former Minister of Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Culture of the Czech Republic, expresses his distaste for the increasingly superficial nature of contemporary political discourse. Although he has distanced himself from active politics, he feels compelled to speak out due to his concerns about the current political environment. Stropnický notes that the inability to engage meaningfully with contemporary issues is detrimental not only to public discourse but also to personal well-being, suggesting that detachment from societal issues is unhealthy for individuals involved in politics.

Stropnický reminisces about his entry into the political arena in 2013, which he considers a pivotal year for Czech politics. The atmosphere following the fall of Prime Minister Petr Nečas's government struck him as 'strange' and somewhat closed off to outsiders. He believed that the ANO movement offered a collection of experienced individuals and a certain ethos at that time. However, he asserts that the initial ideals have waned over the years, leading to his disillusionment with the political landscape he once engaged with, as he finds that these principles now seem almost entirely absent.

Looking to the future, Stropnický does not envision a return to high-level politics, as he criticizes the current political climate driven by marketing and social media rather than substantive debate. He warns that such dynamics lead to short-term responses to public sentiment rather than thoughtful policymaking. This shift, according to him, fundamentally alters the way politics is conducted in the Czech Republic, making it increasingly challenging to engage in meaningful discussions regarding governance and public policy alternatives.
