The new Bernabéu station is getting closer: Plaza de Lima will recover its traffic flow by the end of February
The Plaza de Lima in Madrid will see a return to normal traffic conditions by the end of February as construction on the Metro station of Santiago Bernabéu nears completion.
By the end of February, traffic around Plaza de Lima will return to normal as construction work on the Metro station for Santiago Bernabéu is set to finish. The ongoing works have been causing disruption to traffic for the past year and a half, mainly due to the installation of necessary infrastructure designed to enhance accessibility at the station. Once completed, this project will significantly improve the urban landscape of Castellana, making it cleaner and more functional for both pedestrians and commuters.
The renovation, which comes with a hefty investment of 66 million euros, aims to make the Santiago Bernabéu Metro station fully accessible, featuring the addition of 12 new elevators and 24 escalators. The new design will be inspired by the famous Real Madrid stadium, with a larger and more open lobby that can handle the influx of up to 34,000 people on game days, tripling the current space from 4,843 square meters to over 12,400 square meters. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to upgrading its transport infrastructure to better serve the public.
With around a hundred workers laboring around the clock, the project is progressing rapidly, and the completion of these upgrades is anticipated to have a positive impact on the community. As residents and visitors alike look forward to the operational improvements, this project symbolizes Madrid's endeavor to enhance its metropolitan area and provide a better urban experience for all. The revitalization of Plaza de Lima and the surrounding areas indicates broader efforts to modernize the public transport network while also addressing the demands of a growing city.
