The Prisoner Club condemns Israeli "retaliation displays" against Palestinian prisoners
The Palestinian Prisoner Club condemned recent Israeli actions that appear to retaliate against Palestinian prisoners, particularly spotlighting a video featuring security forces allegedly mistreating them under the direction of far-right Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
The Palestinian Prisoner Club has publicly condemned what they refer to as the "ongoing displays of retaliation" by Israeli authorities after a video surfaced showing Israeli security personnel mistreating Palestinian prisoners in a military prison. The actions were reportedly led by Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, a far-right politician known for his hard-line stance against Palestinians, who has previously called for the execution of 'terrorists.' Such behaviour from Israeli officials is receiving widespread condemnation, including from international bodies such as the UN Human Rights Commissioner.
The video, released by the far-right Israeli news outlet Arutz 7, shows a show of force executed by riot control units within the Ofer prison located in the occupied West Bank. It depicts around 20 armed individuals intimidating prisoners, using weapon displays and sound bombs in a threatening manner. The footage captures moments where five shackled prisoners are forcibly restrained face-down on the ground, further emphasizing allegations of excessive use of violence against detainees.
This incident coincides with ongoing legislative discussions in the Israeli Knesset regarding a law aiming to impose the death penalty on convicted Palestinian prisoners. The hostile narrative surrounding Palestinian prisoners is seen as a reflection of broader tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and raises significant questions about human rights practices in occupied territories, drawing increasing international scrutiny and condemnation.
