A Striking Sight on Kehä III – This is What It Was About
A fire truck towed a car on its roof along Kehä III after the vehicle had flipped onto its side following a collision with a concrete barrier.
On a Sunday evening, a fire truck conducted an unusual display on Kehä III by towing a car that was flipped onto its roof. According to a witness from Ilta-Sanomat, the car was towed over a distance of more than a kilometer in West Vantaa, after having been left obstructing the road at the Martinlaakso exit. As the vehicle was dragged along the icy road, sparks flew from its roof, illustrating the precarious situation.
Niko Karjalahti, the fire chief from the Central Uusimaa Rescue Department, explained that the car had collided with a concrete barrier, flipping it onto its roof and blocking the roadway. Due to the car's orientation, it would have been challenging to turn it upright on Kehä III. Instead, the rescue team opted to tow the vehicle in its original position to a side road, deeming it a simpler solution for the circumstances. Given the significant damages already sustained, towing it in this manner did not result in further harm to the car.
Karjalahti humorously noted that the situation was akin to a peculiar sight on the icy road, likening the dragging of the car to a dramatic chase scene. Remarkably, the traffic disruption on Kehä III lasted less than half an hour, demonstrating the efficiency of the rescue operation. This odd yet fascinating event emphasizes the challenges faced by emergency services on busy roads during inclement weather conditions.
