Entities coordinate response to fire alarm 3 in Guayaquil
Authorities in Guayaquil are coordinating responses to a major structural fire designated as alarm level 3, with multiple agencies involved in the operation.
On February 15, a significant structural fire in Guayaquil, Ecuador, raised to alarm level 3, prompted immediate coordinated efforts among various authorities led by interim mayor Tatiana Coronel. The fire broke out at 10:41 AM, leading to the deployment of twenty-two firefighting resources from the Guayaquil Fire Department along with support from the National Police, Municipal Transit Authority, Municipal Control Agents, Pro Animal, and the Health and Hygiene Directorate.
Interim Mayor Coronel is managing the city's response in the absence of mayor Aquiles Alvarez, who is currently under preventive detention related to the Goleada case. In a statement shared on the social media platform X, she emphasized the establishment of a security perimeter and the continuous operational presence to ensure the complete extinguishment of the fire. The monitoring of the situation remains active amid ongoing efforts to control the blaze.
This incident highlights the collaborative approach taken by various municipal agencies in emergency situations, reflecting the challenges faced by local governments in managing crises, especially when leadership is under scrutiny. The ongoing response also serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities that cities face regarding fire safety and disaster preparedness, necessitating robust emergency response frameworks.
