Breaking | Hamas: The killing of the son of the pursued Samer Samara by the Authority's security forces reflects the danger of repressive policies, and we warn of its repercussions
Hamas accuses Palestinian Authority security forces of killing the children of a fugitive, calling it a serious crime and warning of dire consequences.
Hamas has charged Palestinian Authority security forces with the killing of two children from the Samara family in the town of Tamoun, located in the Tubas Governorate of the occupied West Bank. The incident occurred when security forces targeted the vehicle carrying Samer Samara, a fugitive from Israeli authorities, along with his children. The group described the incident as a "serious crime" that marks a dark point in the record of the security apparatus, which they believe is failing to protect the Palestinian people and instead is oppressing them.
In an official statement released on Sunday evening, Hamas held the leadership of the Palestinian Authority entirely responsible for the incident and its repercussions. They expressed concern over the implications of such actions on the national fabric of the Palestinian society, urging for accountability of those involved and calling for an end to the pursuit of fugitives, as well as the release of political prisoners. The situation illustrates a growing tension between different factions within Palestinian politics, particularly regarding security and the protection of civilians.
Local media reported that a unit from the Preventive Security Force and a special unit named "Arrow" ambushed Samara's vehicle, unleashing a hail of bullets that resulted in the death of his son Ali, aged 16, with several of Samara's other children sustaining injuries, as well as injuries to Samara himself who was subsequently arrested while wounded. The wounded children were transported to hospitals in Tubas and Nablus, where one child was later announced dead from severe injuries, highlighting the tragedy of this violent encounter and the ongoing conflict in the region.
