Speed skater Kim Min-sun sheds tears of regret, 'I will challenge again for the next Olympics'

Korean speed skater Kim Min-sun expressed regret and disappointment after failing to medal in her third Olympic appearance, vowing to continue training for future competitions.

Kim Min-sun, a 27-year-old speed skater representing Uijeongbu City Hall, broke down in tears after finishing 14th in the women's 500m and 18th in the 1000m events at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Despite her expectations and preparations, she was unable to secure a medal in her third Olympics, echoing similar results from the previous two Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and Beijing where she also came away empty-handed. Her disappointment was palpable as she reflected on her performance, particularly criticizing her slow start in the 100m event which she believes impacted her overall results in the 500m event.

Throughout her emotional interview, Kim expressed regret for not being able to achieve the desired outcomes, stating, "I had hoped to show a better performance after having learned a lot from my previous Olympics." Despite her struggle, Kim remains resilient and determined as she plans to continue her career, acknowledging the experiences as learning opportunities. She emphasized that retirement is not an option for her yet, as she is motivated to train harder for the next season and the next Olympic games, hoping to improve her performance and achieve the results she aspires to in the future.
