Supermarket ice cream named as good as Magnum in taste test — and it's £1 cheaper
A supermarket-owned ice cream has been rated just as highly as the Magnum Classic in a recent taste test conducted by Which?, offering a more affordable alternative for ice cream lovers.
In a recent taste test by consumer organization Which?, a supermarket's own-brand ice cream was rated equally with the popular Magnum Classic, highlighting its appeal and quality. Despite cold weather conditions, the taste test showcased that ice cream is a beloved treat year-round, not just in summer. With a panel of 60 volunteers participating, the focus was on determining the finest chocolate-coated vanilla ice cream available.
The taste test revealed that the Marks and Spencer Chocolate Sticks ice cream managed to secure a joint first position alongside Magnum, both achieving an impressive approval score of 82%. Participants praised the intense flavors and sweetness of both options, which emphasizes the competitive nature of supermarket brands in the ice cream market. This finding provides consumers with a high-quality alternative that is also more economical by being £1 cheaper than the Magnum.
This rating might encourage more consumers to explore supermarket options rather than sticking solely to branded products like Magnum. It also reflects changing consumer preferences that value both quality and affordability, particularly in the wake of increasing living costs. This study by Which? serves to inform consumers about their choices and proves that exceptional taste and quality can often be found in unexpected places, including supermarket own-label products.
