Alert on Helsinki flight - passenger fined

A passenger on a Norwegian flight from Malaga to Helsinki was fined for smoking during the flight, causing an alert due to the incident.

On Saturday evening at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, police issued a fine to a man who smoked on a flight. This information was confirmed by the police's situation center. According to Norwegian Airlines, a passenger had lit a cigarette during the flight from Malaga to Helsinki, triggering an alert at the back of the aircraft. Despite the incident, Norwegian reported that the flight was not delayed, and the police met the smoking passenger at the airport.

The police have refrained from commenting on the nationality of the fined passenger. According to Iltalehti, which first reported the incident, the man had gone to smoke in the airplane restroom, prompting the alarm. This situation caused confusion among the other passengers, as they were not informed about the ongoing situation. A passenger on the flight described to Iltalehti that "panic levels rose" for the remainder of the flight, creating an unsettling atmosphere.

Norwegian Airlines has emphasized that smoking on flights is prohibited. Traficom, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, has regulations in place regarding smoking in aircraft restroom facilities, indicating the seriousness of this offense. The incident raises important discussions about passenger safety and compliance with aviation regulations, highlighting the potential dangers posed by such actions during flights.
