At the UPA, a 19-year-old woman who accompanied the victim informed the police that they had been walking in the area to take a ride with a ride-hailing service when a white vehicle approached them. A hooded man exited the car and fired at least two shots before fleeing the scene. The Military Police reported that the young man was struck in both the chest and right arm, and was taken in critical condition to the UPA's emergency room, before being transferred to the Valença School Hospital. The witness received medical attention and was later discharged.
