V. Čmilytė: liberals will not return to the working group convened by J. Olekas regarding LRT

Liberalų sąjūdis in Lithuania has decided to withdraw from a parliamentary working group discussing amendments to the LRT law, citing procedural issues and chaotic operations within the group.

The leader of the Liberalų sąjūdis, V. Čmilytė, stated that the party has presented its proposals regarding the LRT law amendments but will no longer participate in the working group founded by the parliament's speaker. This decision comes after irregularities and chaotic proceedings within the group, with the final straw being the introduction of new initiatives that had not been previously discussed. The Liberals believe they have contributed enough and are now waiting for discussions to occur in the Seimas, Lithuania's parliament.

Čmilytė emphasized that the party will firmly hold onto its stance and has completed its responsibilities in the working group. They aim to ensure that their views are heard and considered in the upcoming parliamentary discussions. The Liberals express a commitment to engaging with the legislative process at the Seimas level rather than within a setting they perceive as disorganized and ineffective.

This shift highlights ongoing tensions within Lithuania's political landscape regarding the governance of public broadcasting and how legislative processes are conducted. The Liberalų sąjūdis' withdrawal may influence the pace and nature of discussions surrounding LRT, potentially amplifying certain voices and perspectives in the legislative debate about the future of state media.
