Brignone also triumphed in giant slalom, silver was shared

Italian skier Federica Brignone secured a second gold medal in giant slalom at the Winter Olympics, showcasing extraordinary performance after a significant injury comeback.

Federica Brignone, who had won her first Olympic gold just three days earlier, continued her stellar Olympic performance in front of the home crowd by clinching the gold medal in the giant slalom. The 35-year-old athlete entered her second run with a lead of 0.34 seconds over her competitors and raised her level further, finishing with a time of 2:13.50 to earn her second Olympic gold.

Brignone's triumph is particularly remarkable considering she had suffered a severe knee ligament injury and fractured several bones in her left leg back in April of the previous year. She made her return to the World Cup circuit only on January 20, and, less than a month later, she has emerged as a two-time Olympic champion, a testament to her resilience and skill.

In the competition, first run leader Sara Hector, who had initially placed fourth, delivered an impressive second run, clocking in at 2:14.12, securing her position at the top for a brief time. Norwegian skier Thea Louise Stjernesund also matched Hector's second run time exactly, resulting in a shared silver medal situation. Ultimately, Brignone took home the gold, while both Hector and Stjernesund shared the silver medals.
