Harri Kirvesniemi's blunt assessment of Finland's relay message

Finland's men's cross-country skiing team finished fourth in the relay event at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, with expert Harri Kirvesniemi acknowledging the team's solid performance but noting that others were simply better.

On Sunday, Finland's men's cross-country skiing team secured a fourth-place finish in the relay event during the Milan-Cortina Olympics. The event saw Norway taking the gold, France the silver, and Italy the bronze, with Finland's team comprised of Lauri Vuorinen, Iivo Niskanen, Arsi Ruuskanen, and Niko Anttola. Ruuskanen managed to bring Finland into the last exchange in third place, but the Italian anchor, Federico Pellegrino, managed to overtake Anttola, hindering Finland's chances of securing a podium finish.

Expert analyst Harri Kirvesniemi praised Finland's performance but concluded that it was insufficient for a medal this time. He stressed that achieving fourth place required relatively good efforts from all team members, which they delivered, yet it was not enough compared to their competitors. Kirvesniemi remarked that the team performed at a reasonably good level, emphasizing that no one underperformed despite being edged out by slightly stronger teams.

Finally, while Finland was in close contention for the bronze medal, the host nation, Italy, managed to secure it. Kirvesniemi noted that Italy came into the race as a somewhat stronger team than Finland, and their performance met those expectations, highlighting Finland's overall solid contribution but underscoring the superiority of the opponents on that day.
