The fabulous amount that the king and queen of Spain will receive as a salary
King Felipe VI will earn €290,000 this year while Queen Letizia will receive €160,000, following a 1.5% salary increase for state officials in Spain.
This year, King Felipe VI of Spain will receive a salary of €290,000 (approximately $344,500), which is an increase of €4,311 ($5,122) compared to the previous year, reflecting the 1.5% raise approved for state officials. Queen Letizia will earn €160,000 (around $190,000), an increase of €2,881 ($3,422). These salaries are drawn from the budget allocation for the State Headship, which remains at €8.4 million (almost $10 million) due to a budget extension from 2023.
According to the Spanish Constitution, the king has the authority to freely distribute these funds among members of the royal family. For the past six years, only the king, Queen Letizia, and Queen Sofía have received annual allocations from this budget. This year, Queen Sofía will receive an amount of €131,000 (approximately $155,600), which is an increase of €2,438 (nearly $2,900) compared to last year.
The €8.4 million budget allows the royal institution to meet its economic obligations, including salaries, social security contributions, and benefits for royal staff and other duties. This financial structure ensures the royal family's operational viability while being a focal point of public interest, especially concerning the fiscal involvement of the monarchy in times of economic scrutiny in Spain.
