Russia-Ukraine to hold peace talks with American mediation, Zelensky expresses hope for an end to the war

Ukraine and Russia are set to engage in peace talks mediated by the U.S. in Geneva, aiming to end the ongoing conflict.

In a renewed effort to end the four-year-long conflict in Ukraine, peace talks involving Russia and Ukraine, mediated by the United States, are scheduled to take place in Geneva on Tuesday and Wednesday. During these discussions, diplomats will focus on peace proposals presented by the Trump administration. Previously, a tripartite meeting aimed at establishing peace was held in Abu Dhabi, but it ended without tangible results, although there was consensus on continuing discussions.

According to Reuters, the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine aimed at ending the war are nearing a conclusive stage. The main sticking point remains the eastern region of Donbas, with Russia wishing to claim it as its own territory while Ukraine remains adamant about not conceding any land. This ongoing issue presents a significant obstacle to achieving a comprehensive peace agreement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism regarding the upcoming peace talks, stating his hope that the mediation by the U.S. will yield meaningful results. While addressing the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky emphasized the importance of these talks for Ukraine's future and reaffirmed the nation's commitment to defending its sovereignty against external aggression.
