Searches for missing people in shipwreck continue this Sunday (15) in Amazonas
Search operations for seven missing persons following a shipwreck in the Manaus region are entering their second day.
The search for seven individuals missing after a shipwreck in the Manaus area of the Amazonas state is continuing into its second day. The vessel, known as the Lima de Abreu XV, sank shortly after departing Manaus for Nova Olinda do Norte, resulting in two confirmed fatalities, including a young child. Rescue efforts have managed to save 71 individuals, but the difficulty of the operation grows as the search area was found about 50 meters deep in the water.
The Amazonas Military Fire Brigade (CBMAM) and the Brazilian Navy are leading the recovery efforts. These modules include 21 divers and 44 firefighters, using various boats to navigate the waters of the Amazon River. Additionally, local residents have joined in the search, increasing community involvement in the rescue operation. A specialized dive team from Itacoatiara is set to comb through the river's route to enhance the efficiency of the search.
As of now, no additional survivors have been found since the rescuers began their efforts. The situation reflects not only the immediate tragedy faced by the families of those lost but also highlights the broader challenges of maritime safety in the Amazon region. Continued investigations will likely follow to determine the causes of the incident and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
