Russian forces have launched around 1,300 attack drones against Ukraine over the past week, alongside other missile attacks targeting critical infrastructure.
In the past week, Russian forces have intensified their military activity, launching approximately 1,300 attack drones against Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this escalation on social media, highlighting that this surge in drone attacks is part of a broader campaign targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Along with the drones, Russia launched over 1,200 guided aerial bombs and 50 ballistic missiles, marking a significant increase in aerial assaults.
On February 15, key Ukrainian regions including Odesa, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy were specifically targeted. Zelenskyy pointed out that the principal aim of these maneuvers is to cripple Ukraine's energy sector, particularly by striking generation facilities, substations, and the electrical grid. Not only does this conflict highlight the ongoing military aggression, but it also poses serious implications for the stability and safety of civilian infrastructure, as many residential areas are also affected by these attacks.
The Ukrainian Air Force documented that on the night of February 14-15 alone, Russian forces deployed 83 drones, of which 55 were successfully intercepted or jammed. This speaks to the resilience of Ukraine's defense systems, yet the unfortunate reality is that not all attacks can be repelled, resulting in significant damage and casualties. The intense frequency and scale of these strikes illustrate the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces in preserving its sovereignty and protecting its citizens amidst such relentless aggression.
