Danes love Norwegian winter holidays

Danish tourists have significantly increased their spending at Norwegian ski resorts, particularly during winter holiday weeks.

Norwegian ski resorts have seen a remarkable surge in spending from foreign tourists, with Danes leading the way. International payment data from the payment company Nets indicates that from 2023 to 2025, spending in Norwegian ski areas such as Trysil, Hemsedal, Hafjell, and Kvitfjell rose nearly 46% during the winter holiday weeks. Danish tourists, in particular, have increased their expenditure by 60% over the past two years, accounting for one-third of all foreign spending in these winter destinations.

One factor driving this increase is the favorable currency exchange rate for Danes, as the Norwegian krone is considered inexpensive from their perspective. Additionally, the snow conditions in Norway are relatively reliable, and the ski resorts are known for being family-friendly. These elements contribute to the appeal of Norway as a winter holiday destination, especially given the convenience of shorter driving distances from Denmark compared to other ski countries.

While Swedish tourists are also increasing their spending, the growth rate is not as pronounced as that of their southern neighbors. Market Director Randi MΓ₯rdalen at Nets Norway highlights the importance of these factors, emphasizing that the combination of favorable pricing, excellent conditions, and proximity makes Norway a prime winter holiday choice for Danish families.
