Australia to Build a $3.9 Billion Nuclear Submarine Factory
Australia is investing $3.9 billion to establish a nuclear submarine factory as part of the AUKUS trilateral security pact with the UK and the USA.
On Sunday, Australia announced a substantial $3.9 billion investment to create a nuclear submarine factory, a move underpinned by the AUKUS security pact with the United Kingdom and the United States. This investment, which will enable the construction of submarines set to be completed by 2032, is a pivotal element in Australia's strategy to enhance its long-range strike capabilities in the Pacific region, particularly in response to the rising influence of China. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized the crucial role of this submarine facility in delivering Australia's conventional submarine capabilities, stressing the need to accelerate the opportunities arising from AUKUS to ensure Australia's future defense capabilities and to generate long-term prosperity and jobs within the state.
