Power outage darkened a large part of Oulu - Thousands were left without electricity

A significant power outage occurred in Oulu early Sunday, affecting over 23,000 customers before power was restored shortly after.

Early Sunday, Oulu experienced a substantial power outage that left a maximum of 23,815 customers without electricity, as reported by Oulun Energia. The outage affected nearly one-fifth of the company's clientele, leading to significant disruptions in the area. Corrective actions were swiftly communicated, and by approximately 5:24 AM, power was restored to all affected households after a brief delay anticipated by the company.

Oulun Energia noted that prior to the restoration of power, customers were advised to ensure that no electrical devices were left on to prevent any hazards caused by sudden surges. There was an emphasis on safety, which reminded residents to turn off stoves and any appliances that could pose a risk once power was resumed. The company assessed the issue and originally estimated a two-hour repair time, which they later successfully adhered to.

During the time of the outage, temperatures in Oulu were around -12 degrees Celsius, presenting added concerns as many residents faced risks due to the cold while being without heat. The areas impacted included Oulunsuu, Vรคrttรถ, Sanginsuu, and several others within Oulu's vicinity. The swift response and communication from Oulun Energia helped to mitigate longer-lasting consequences for the community, reflecting the essential nature of prompt updates in such emergency situations.
