Brazil's Lucas Pinaire, at the age of 26, has made history by becoming the first South American to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. Competing in the Men's Giant Slalom at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, Pinaire clinched first place on February 14, 2026, at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, Italy. He completed the two runs with a combined time of 2:25.00, outperforming the second-place Swiss athlete Marco Odermatt and the third-place Loïc Meillard. Pinaire, who holds dual citizenship due to his Norwegian mother and Brazilian father, previously competed for Norway until 2023. His switch to represent Brazil was marked by struggles within the Norwegian skiing federation, leading to his retirement before he reclaimed his athlete status under Brazilian nationality in 2024. Aside from his skiing career, he is also known for his work as a model and DJ, showcasing his multifaceted talents.
