Video shows falls of master drummer and flag bearer from Acadêmicos do Tatuapé after slipping on oil from a float

A master drummer and flag bearer from the Acadêmicos do Tatuapé samba school experienced a fall during a parade due to slipping on oil, but both quickly recovered and continued.

During a parade early Saturday morning at the Anhembi Sambadrome, the second couple of master drummer Rud Gonçalves and flag bearer Stefany Dias from the Acadêmicos do Tatuapé samba school fell after slipping in a puddle of oil spilled by one of the school's floats. Fortunately, they quickly got back on their feet and resumed their performance with no injuries reported. This incident caused a significant delay in the parade schedule, with the subsequent school, Vai-Vai, being held back by over an hour due to safety concerns related to the oil on the runway.

The League of Independent Samba Schools of São Paulo has rules that penalize schools for falls during performances, applying a deduction of 0.1 points for each fall; however, the Acadêmicos do Tatuapé may escape penalties in this case. According to the school's press office, only the first couple receives scores, and since the fall occurred where there were no judges present, the performance ratings for aspects like Evolution should remain unaffected. This incident highlights the challenges and risks that occur during such large, festive events and raises questions about safety protocols for both performers and equipment.

As the festivities continue, this event serves as a reminder of the unpredictability involved in live performances, and the pressing need for ensuring safety measures for the performers in crowded and dynamic environments like carnival parades. The incident underscores the importance of scrutinizing preparation and equipment maintenance to avoid similar accidents in the future, ensuring both the performers' safety and the integrity of the parade flow.
