Woman arrested upon receiving abortion medication through the mail in Goiás, says Civil Police
A woman was arrested in Goiás, Brazil, for receiving an illegal shipment of abortion medication sent through the postal service.
In a recent incident in Itumbiara, Goiás, a woman was apprehended by the Civil Police after allegedly receiving a package containing abortive medications via Correios, the postal service in Brazil. Her arrest occurred on a Friday afternoon, and the police stated that they had been alerted by the Central of Flagrances in Goiânia about the suspicious shipment.
Following the alert, law enforcement officers began to monitor the woman's movements over a two-day period. They tracked her between her home and workplace, waiting for the delivery of the package. As soon as the postal worker delivered the package, police intervened and approached the woman to execute the arrest.
Upon examination of the package, authorities discovered six pills of a medication that is prohibited in Brazil. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and currently, the defense for the arrested woman has not been reachable for comment, leaving questions about the circumstances surrounding her actions and the broader implications for abortion access in the region.
