12-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling from 18th Floor in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka

A 12-year-old boy died after falling from the 18th floor of an apartment building in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka.

On the evening of February 14, around 9:30 PM, local residents in Nishihonmachi, Yahatanishi Ward of Kitakyushu, reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a man lying in blood outside. According to the Yahatanishi Police, a sixth-grade elementary school boy, aged 12, was found severely injured in the apartment compound, and despite being rushed to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead about an hour later. The police revealed that the boy lived on the 18th floor of the building and is presumed to have fallen from a shared area on that floor. Preliminary investigations show that aside from injuries consistent with the fall, no other factors have been identified, with inquiries ongoing to determine the cause of the fall. This tragic incident raises questions about safety measures in residential buildings, particularly concerning child safety in high-rise environments, which have prompted discussions on the need for improved window guards and safety protocols to prevent similar accidents in the future.
