A city employee in Hortolândia, Brazil, was arrested with cocaine and replica firearms inside an unmarked police vehicle after being reported by the public.
In the early hours of Saturday, a city employee from Hortolândia, São Paulo, was arrested after police discovered cocaine and simulated firearms inside a Civil Police vehicle that he had taken without authorization. The 54-year-old man was stopped on Avenida Brasil in Jardim Amanda after military police received a tip-off regarding an armed individual. Upon arrival, officers found a pot containing cocaine and six microtubes, in addition to the replica firearms. The suspect was taken into custody, and the car was subjected to forensic examination.
The investigation revealed that the man was indeed an employee of the municipality, raising concerns over the misuse of municipal resources. The incident has raised questions about local governance and the trust in public servants, especially in light of the illegal activities connected with the police vehicle. Although the local city hall reported that they had not been officially notified of the situation, they acknowledged the seriousness of the report and pledged to cooperate with any ensuing investigations by the police's Internal Affairs.
The case is currently under investigation at the 2nd Police Station in Hortolândia, and it is being scrutinized by the Civil Police's Corregedoria. Authorities are likely to examine potential disciplinary actions against the public employee as well as measures to enhance oversight and accountability in municipal operations, particularly concerning the use of vehicles and public resources.
