Attacks on three communities in Nigeria leave at least 32 dead and others kidnapped

At least 32 people have died following simultaneous armed attacks on three communities in central-northern Nigeria.

At least 32 individuals were killed in coordinated attacks on three communities in the Borgu area of Niger state, Nigeria, on February 14, as reported by local police and residents. The targeted communities—Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso, and Pissa—were struck by armed groups in a pre-dawn onslaught that has shocked local residents and highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by the region.

According to the police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, six fatalities were confirmed in Tunga-Makeri, while a number of individuals remain unaccounted for and may have been kidnapped during the attacks. The situation in Konkoso appears to be even worse, with a resident, Abdullahi Adamu, reporting that 26 people were killed in that particular community. This grim tally underscores the severity of the violence in an area where residents feel increasingly abandoned by security forces.

In response to the attacks, security teams have been mobilized to the affected areas to assess the situation and initiate rescue efforts for the victims. Abiodun confirmed that operations were ongoing but did not provide further details, leaving many families in distress and fear for their missing loved ones. The lack of visible security presence during the attacks raises serious concerns about safety and governmental effectiveness in providing adequate protection to vulnerable communities in Nigeria.
