Uncontrolled school bus crashes into house in Serra Gaúcha
A runaway school bus crashed into two cars and a house in Nova Petrópolis, Brazil, with four children inside, none of whom were injured.
A school bus in Nova Petrópolis, located in Serra Gaúcha, Brazil, was left unattended and subsequently rolled down a hill, crashing into two parked cars before crashing into the front porch of a house on Friday, the 13th. The bus contained four young children, ages two, four, six, and ten, who were the children of the bus driver. Fortunately, all the children emerged from the incident without injuries.
The incident occurred when the bus driver exited the vehicle to investigate a malfunctioning door. During this time, the bus, which was parked on a decline, began to roll away uncontrollably. Local emergency services, the Corpo de Bombeiros Voluntários, responded to the scene and transported the children to Nova Petrópolis Hospital for precautionary evaluations, as a safety measure despite their lack of visible injuries.
The municipal government of Nova Petrópolis issued a statement clarifying that the bus was not operating in service for the municipal education department at the time of the incident. The accident highlights concerns regarding the safety protocols for school buses and the responsibilities of operators to ensure the safety of vehicles, especially when transporting young children.
