Zarif: The Munich Conference is a "Circus" and Europe has Lost its Weight

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi criticized the Munich Security Conference as a 'circus' regarding Iran, expressing dissatisfaction with Europe's role in regional politics.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi described the Munich Security Conference as having transformed into a 'Munich Circus' concerning Iran, reflecting his discontent with the European Union's stance and Germany's involvement in regional politics. He expressed that Europe has become 'completely absent from the scene' after once being a key player in dialogues, highlighting a perceived paralysis and loss of influence within the EU as well as the European troika in the ongoing negotiations about Iran's nuclear program.

Araqchi pointed out that the ineffectiveness of the European troika is evident, especially as discussions about Iran's nuclear program are in progress. He emphasized that regional allies have proven to be far more effective and beneficial compared to the sidelined European troika. Furthermore, he criticized Germany's regional policy, asserting it has entirely aligned with Israeli interests, which undermines European credibility as a mediator in the region.

The 62nd Munich Security Conference commenced on Friday, attracting participation from over 60 heads of state and government, alongside nearly 100 defense and foreign ministers. Araqchi's remarks underscore growing frustrations within Iran regarding European diplomatic efforts and suggest a shift in regional dynamics, with Iran increasingly favoring relationships with neighboring allies over traditional ties with European powers.
