On January 31, a phone scam occurred in Pella, Greece, where perpetrators posing as accountants managed to steal four gold coins and jewelry worth a total of 5,000 euros. A male suspect, who is a Greek citizen, has been identified and faces charges for his role in this fraud case.
The scam unfolded when an accomplice made a phone call to a residential landline, where they engaged in conversation with a minor. In this interaction, the scammer impersonated an accountant and claimed they needed to count the jewelry in the home. By manipulating the situation, they successfully deceived the household into believing this lie, which led to the theft.
In a related case on the same day in Pella, the identified male also faced charges for a similar phone scam, where he received jewelry, watches, and gold coins valued at 25,000 euros from a female resident. This highlights a broader issue of phone scams in the region, prompting police warnings about the need for caution regarding unsolicited calls and verification of suspicious claims.
