Zubčić after the slalom: We are not cowards, we move on

Croatian skier Filip Zubčić finished 14th in the giant slalom at the Winter Olympic Games in Bormio, highlighting both his challenges and determination to improve.

Filip Zubčić, Croatia's top skier, achieved a 14th place finish in the giant slalom at the Winter Olympic Games taking place in Bormio. Despite finishing 16th in his first run, Zubčić managed to improve in his second run; however, he faced difficulties due to issues with his glasses, which impeded an even better performance. He reflected on his racing experience, indicating that while he felt he skied better the second time, it was a missed opportunity to secure a stronger result.

Conditions during the race were notably challenging, with weather shifts affecting the course. Zubčić explained that while it was snowing at the top of the track, rain began to fall mid-way, causing the snow to melt and creating a more spring-like surface. These fluctuating conditions meant that skiers who could not adapt properly faced significant challenges, underlining the importance of versatility in the sport.

In reflecting on his Olympic performance, Zubčić maintained a realistic and positive outlook despite not medaling. He acknowledged that in competitions of this level, medals are what matter most, and expressed some disappointment in his results. However, he emphasized his determination to keep striving for improvement, looking forward to the upcoming slalom event in two days and remaining focused on the remainder of the season, indicating a commitment to continue pushing himself to achieve better instances in future competitions.
