Finnish athlete broke down in tears
Finnish biathlete Sonja Leinamo broke down in tears after her disappointing performance in the Olympic sprint race, despite strong skiing conditions.
In the women's 7.5km sprint at the Olympics, Finnish athlete Suvi Minkkinen achieved an impressive sixth place finish. However, the event was challenging for many of her compatriots, with Venla Lehtonen finishing 63rd, Sonja Leinamo in 70th, and Inka Hämäläinen in 77th place. The results highlight the struggles faced by the Finnish team compared to Minkkinen's commendable performance.
Sonja Leinamo, who finished in 70th place, expressed her disappointment after missing five shots in the race, leading to her emotional breakdown. Despite feeling well-prepared heading into the competition, Leinamo was at a loss to explain the failures in her shooting. She stated that she was frustrated because everything had felt right in practice, making the outcome all the more disheartening.
Leinamo noted that while the conditions included some snowfall, she found the ground to be slippery, which added to her difficulties during the event. Despite earlier successes this season, including a second-place finish in a normal distance race, the Olympic sprint has proven to be a challenging competition for her and her teammates, signaling the pressures faced by athletes on such a prominent stage.
