Among the participants were individuals carrying images of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former shah overthrown in the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Pahlavi currently lives in exile in the United States, and there are factions within the Iranian opposition that see him as a potential leader for a future democratic Iran. However, not all segments of the opposition support the idea of Pahlavi returning to power, reflecting the diversity of opinion within Iranian political circles both abroad and at home.

This demonstration forms part of a larger dissent against the Iranian government, indicating that sentiments of opposition are strong among expatriates and immigrants.
