Two trucks collided head-on on Route 2, at the start of Carnival weekend: a 20-year-old boy died
A tragic road accident occurred on Route 2 during the Carnival weekend, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old driver.
The long Carnival weekend in Argentina began with a devastating traffic accident on Route 2, where a young man named SebastiΓ‘n Traverso, aged 20, lost his life. The collision occurred near Castelli, on a busy stretch of road leading toward Mar del Plata. Reports indicate that Traverso lost control of his gray Ford EcoSport, colliding head-on with another gray vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, which was heading toward the coast.
Eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations suggest that a heavy flow of traffic contributed to the accident, with long lines of cars forming near kilometer marker 191 in the hours leading up to the weekend. Despite the quick response from emergency medical services who rushed Traverso to the Hospital Castelli, he was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained injuries that proved fatal on impact. The occupants of the Hilux, comprised of a 55-year-old man and another individual, were also taken to the hospital but survived with various degrees of injuries.
This incident highlights the ongoing issues with road safety during festive periods in Argentina. Carnival weekend is known for increased travel, and the tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with high traffic volumes and the necessity for vigilant driving practices, especially on busy highways. Authorities may need to consider enhanced safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future, particularly during peak travel times.
