General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Indian Army, will embark on an official visit to Australia from February 16 to 19. This trip aims to further bolster defense cooperation between India and Australia and to provide new momentum to the growing strategic partnership between the two nations. During his visit, General Dwivedi is scheduled to meet with top leadership of the Australian Defense Forces to discuss key areas of collaboration.
The discussions will heavily emphasize training, joint military exercises, and capacity building, with the objective of reinforcing military cooperation between the two countries. During the visit, General Dwivedi is expected to meet senior officials from the Australian Forces Command (FORCOMD), Special Operations Command (SOCOMD), and the Second Division in Sydney. This level of engagement indicates a serious commitment to deepening military ties and enhancing operational interoperability.
Notably, units from the Australian Army’s Second Division regularly participate in the bilateral military exercise ‘AUSTRAHIND’ with India, with the next iteration scheduled to take place in India in 2026. Upon arrival in Canberra, General Dwivedi will be welcomed formally with a Guard of Honor, further symbolizing the close defense relationship being fostered between India and Australia.
