Petrõkina has arrived in Milan: I don’t feel the pressure
Figure skater Niina Petrõkina has arrived in Milan for the Olympic Games without feeling pressure ahead of her debut.
Estonian figure skater Niina Petrõkina has reached Milan for the upcoming Olympic Games in Cortina, Italy, and has immediately begun practicing on the Olympic ice rink. Petrõkina expressed to ERR that she is not feeling the pressure typically associated with an Olympic debut, emphasizing her focus on performance rather than the surrounding expectations. The European champion, who was crowned for the second time in January, appears relaxed and ready for the challenges ahead.
Upon her arrival, Petrõkina and her coach Svetlana Varnavskaja took to the ice less than two hours after landing, showcasing her readiness to compete. She commented on the ice conditions, noting the warmth and quality of the rink, and described her initial experience as positive, stating that she managed to execute all her jumps despite traveling directly from the plane with no prior warm-up. This adaptability may serve her well in the Olympic environment.
Petrõkina also acknowledged the emotional toll of increased media attention following her European Championship win, admitting that the numerous interviews had worn her out somewhat. Nevertheless, her enthusiasm for the Olympic atmosphere shines through, as she appreciates the vibrant and lively environment in Milan, comparing it to a cartoon with its colorful presentation. This unique blend of excitement and pressure will test her skills as she gears up for her first Olympic appearance.
