Ukrainian forces have initiated small counterattacks along the eastern front following Elon Musk's blockade of the Starlink satellite internet service for Russian forces. This has emerged from a report on the war in Ukraine by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Analysts from the think tank suggest that Ukrainian troops are launching local, opportunistic counterattacks near the administrative borders of the Dnipropetrovsk-Zaporizhzhia region, specifically between southern Dobropillia and northern Varvarivka.

The Ukrainian operations are a direct reaction to favorable conditions on the battlefield, which are, in part, attributed to the recent restrictions observed at Starlink terminals and the usage of the Telegram application by the Russian military. The ISW reported that it began noticing reports of limited-scale Ukrainian counterattacks starting February 9. Shortly thereafter, a senior NATO official indicated to Russian media that the alliance was monitoring these developments closely.
