Wang Yi: NATO is hypocritical – China does not have the final say in Ukraine
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for respect and cooperation in US-China relations, while criticizing NATO's approach during his speech at the Munich Conference.
During the Munich Security Conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed a message that US-China relations should be guided by mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and willing cooperation. He underscored that the ability to achieve this goal ultimately depends on the United States. Wang acknowledged positive signs, highlighting recent comments from US President Donald Trump that expressed respect for Chinese leader Xi Jinping and China's standing.
Wang Yi presented two potential scenarios for the evolution of US-China relations: one being a rational alignment of cooperation, where both countries expand their interests, which he deemed beneficial for both nations and the global stage. The alternative scenario he warned of is an aggressive decoupling from China, marked by a purely emotional and panicked response from the US, which could have far-reaching implications for international relations.
Additionally, Wang criticized NATO's approach, labeling it as hypocritical and a self-serving one-sided strategy. He indicated that NATO's actions do not reflect fair and equitable standards, particularly pointing out the inconsistencies in its dealings regarding global security challenges. His statements illustrate China's position on maintaining a critical stance towards NATO while trying to balance its relations with the US in a complex geopolitical landscape.
