Young people arrested for selling fake medical certificates for carnival
Two young individuals were arrested in Brazil for selling fake medical certificates for the carnival festivities, charging R$ 50 per day.
In Aparecida de Goiânia, two young people aged 18 and 30 were arrested by military police for selling fake medical certificates intended for the carnival season. They were reportedly charging R$ 50 for each fraudulent certificate, taking advantage of the high demand for such documents during this festive period. The police arrested them on Thursday, the 12th, in the Independência Mansões neighborhood, highlighting the ongoing problem of fraudulent medical documentation in Brazil.
During the arrest, authorities seized a substantial number of materials, including 25 stamps, 11 blank certificates, and several filled forms suggesting that a larger operation could have been in place. The fake certificates bore the names of various individuals and had active registration with the Regional Medical Council, indicating a sophisticated level of deceit aimed at exploiting people wanting to secure days off during the carnival.
This incident follows a broader trend in Goiânia, where authorities have reported approximately 100 cases of verified fake medical certificates submitted by city server employees. The local government is currently under investigation for mismanagement relating to medical leave requests, which also points to more systemic issues regarding the credibility and oversight of medical documentation in the region as the city grapples with thousands of health-related leave requests.
