Prague to Apply for Building Permit for the Vltava Philharmonic, Costs Reach 12 Billion

Prague's city council is finalizing the project documentation for the Vltava Philharmonic and plans to apply for a building permit in the summer, with construction expected to start next year.

The city of Prague is moving forward with its ambitious project to construct the Vltava Philharmonic, with city officials currently finalizing the necessary project documentation. According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček, the city aims to submit a building permit request this coming summer, with construction anticipated to commence next year. This long-awaited initiative follows previous planning efforts from the last electoral period and has been positively evaluated from an environmental standpoint.

Cost estimates for the philharmonic's construction currently stand at approximately 11.65 billion Czech koruna. In preparation for financing the project, the city intends to discuss with the government the possibility of increasing the tourist tax, which could provide vital funding for the construction. The location of the future building will be near the Vltavská metro station, adding to the cultural landscape of Prague along the riverbank.

According to the projected timeline, the documentation should be completed by April, allowing the city council to formally request the building permits in August. If all goes according to plan, the Vltava Philharmonic could be operational by 2033, possibly starting with a trial phase. This project not only represents a significant investment in Prague's cultural infrastructure but also highlights the city's commitment to enhancing its status as a cultural hub in Central Europe.
