Russians attack Ukraine with missile and over 100 drones, 11 locations hit
Russian forces attacked Ukraine on February 13-14 with a missile and over 100 drones, resulting in 11 locations being hit despite Ukrainian air defenses downing most of the UAVs.
On the night of February 13-14, Russian forces launched a significant offensive against Ukraine, deploying an Iskander-M ballistic missile and a total of 112 drones, primarily of the Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types. This aggressive act involved launching these munitions from multiple locations, including Kursk, Oryol, and Bryansk in Russia, as well as the occupied regions of Donetsk and Crimea. Reports confirmed that approximately 70 of the UAVs were Shahed loitering munitions, which are known for their precision targeting capabilities.
Despite the scale of the attack, Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept and down around 91 of the incoming UAVs, demonstrating the effectiveness of Ukraine's missile defense systems in safeguarding their territory against aerial assaults. However, the breach of airspace resulted in 11 significant locations being struck, indicating a troubling pattern of persistent attacks aimed at critical infrastructure and military targets, as the war continues to escalate.
The Ukrainian military response involved a coordinated effort, employing aircraft, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and mobile fire groups to fend off the aerial assault. This incident underscores the ongoing military tensions in the region and the continued commitment of Russian forces to carry out drone warfare as part of their military strategy against Ukraine, raising concerns over future operations and the resilience of Ukrainian defenses.
