Maria Aparecida de Souza, a veteran samba dancer in Curitiba, inspires new generations through her longstanding dedication to the city's Carnival and her role in costume creation.

Maria Aparecida de Souza, affectionately known as Marcinha, is a celebrated figure in the Carnival of Curitiba, having participated for 42 consecutive years. At 61 years old, she has been an integral part of the samba scene, representing her passion by dancing and creating costumes for the festivities. This year, she features prominently as a dancer for the 'Enamorados do Samba' school in the Special Group and as a mentor for the 'Asas de Prata' school in the Access Group.

Originating from Maringá in northern Paraná, Marcinha moved to Curitiba at the age of 13, where she discovered her love for samba. Becoming a role model within the community, she has been honored multiple times as the Queen of the Carnival, with six titles, alongside seven times as a princess. Her influence extends beyond the stage, as she actively participates in the production of Carnival costumes, having crafted over ten outfits for fellow performers this season alone.

The Carnaval parade in Curitiba is scheduled for Saturday, featuring the city's samba schools. Marcinha's enduring participation and her commitment to both performing and supporting others in the Carnaval highlight her as a central and cherished figure in this cultural celebration, motivating a younger generation to continue the samba legacy and engage in the vibrant traditions of Brazilian culture.
