TODAY LIVE | How is Tormis Laine doing on the slopes of Stelvio?
Estonia's top alpine skier, Tormis Laine, is set to compete in the men's giant slalom at the Milano Cortina Olympics this Saturday.
Tormis Laine, regarded as Estonia's best alpine skier, is scheduled to participate in the men's giant slalom at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, taking place at the Stelvio ski resort. The live broadcast on ETV2 and ERR's sports portal will initiate at 10:55 AM, featuring commentary by Juhan Kilumets and Laur Mรคgi, with reporting by Debora Saarnak. This marks Laine's third Olympic appearance, where he hopes to perform well despite recent challenges in feeling fully in touch with his competitive speed.
At 25 years of age, Laine has experienced fluctuations in his performance leading up to the Olympics. He shared with ERR that the slopes at Stelvio are relatively easier for the giant slalom, and his primary goal this Saturday is to ski fast. Laine noted that for the past two months, he has been struggling to regain the sensation of speed that he typically feels during competitions. His desire is to push his limits and take risks, aiming to rediscover his competitive edge.
Previously, Laine achieved a notable placement by finishing in 40th position in the giant slalom event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. His current participation in the World Cup series this year reflects his commitment to improving and preparing for significant athletic challenges ahead of him at the Olympics.
