USA says three are killed in new attack on drug boat
The U.S. Southern Command reported that three suspected drug traffickers were killed in a military operation in the Caribbean on orders from General Francis L. Donovan.
On February 13, a U.S. military operation resulted in the deaths of three suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean. The mission was conducted under the direction of General Francis L. Donovan, as stated in a release from U.S. Southern Command (Southcom) on social media platform X. Intelligence reports indicated that the vessel was following a known drug smuggling route in the region and was actively involved in narcotics trafficking.
U.S. Southern Command oversees American military activities in Latin America and the Caribbean, which includes 31 countries. This operation is part of a broader effort by the United States to combat drug trafficking in these regions. In recent months, the U.S. military has been targeting vessels it believes are transporting drugs to the United States, focusing on the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific.
The report highlights that since September of the previous year, there have been at least 38 U.S. attacks against suspected drug transport vessels, resulting in a total of at least 133 deaths. This aggressive stance underscores the U.S. commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks that pose a significant threat to public safety and national security.
