Four flown to hospital after traffic accident in Tana β one seriously injured
One person is seriously injured after a collision involving two cars in Tana, northern Norway, leading to the airlifting of four individuals to hospitals.
A serious traffic accident occurred in Tana, a municipality in Finnmark, Norway, involving two vehicles that collided on the E6 highway. The accident happened on a Friday evening and involved three adults and one child, one of whom sustained severe injuries requiring urgent medical attention. Local authorities, including the police, reported that all four individuals were transported by air ambulance, with two taken to the University Hospital of Northern Norway in TromsΓΈ and the other two to a hospital in Kirkenes.
According to OpΓ©ration Leader Eli Opphaug, the accident was exacerbated by extremely slippery road conditions due to the cold temperatures, which plummeted to minus 23 degrees Celsius. A Finnish ambulance was the first emergency service to arrive on the scene. The police have stated that their investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, and the accident crew arrived shortly after the incident to begin their inquiries.
In response to the accident, the E6 highway has been closed off, with traffic being rerouted through Finland. While local policemen have expressed hopes that the road could reopen around midnight, they acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the timeline for clearing the accident site and resuming normal traffic conditions. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by adverse weather conditions on roadways in northern Norway during the winter months.
